2D codes are two dimensional barcodes embedded with more information than classical barcodes. Created in Japan in 1994, they were first used in supply chains.
Since 2007, widespread use of the smartphone on the market, 2D codes come to communication where they are mostly used to facilitate access of content on the mobile web (scanning the code avoiding wasting time typing the whole url into a browser).
Video 2D codes introduced by bookBeo go further by offering direct access to storyboarded content, read into an application rich with marketing oriented functions such as social network sharing.
> Different formats
There are mainly two types of open 2D codes :
- Datamatrix, european standards
- QR code, created in Japan and settling now as the international standard.
Thanks to its web platform, bookBeo can generate Datamatrix and QR codes.
Flashcode is not a 2D code type, but the commercial brand of telecom carriers.
